In the name of GOD most kind and most merciful.
Many muslims believe having a dog as a pet is haraam (forbidden). This is adopted from the so called “Sunnah of the Prophet” which is something entirely made up and was never advocated by the Prophet peace be upon him. Quran clearly tells you what is allowed (halal) Shall I seek other than God as a law maker, when He has brought down to you the Book fully detailed?” The Holy Quran – 6:114 and prohibited (haraam) for the religion and anyone who rejects this belief is evil or who alters it is evil “Who is more evil than one who lies about GOD, or reject his revelations? The transgressors never succeed.” – The Holy Quran – 6:21.
Nothing is haram (unlawful) unless it is prohibited by God Himself, and since God describes the Quran as complete, perfect and fully detailed, thus all the prohibitions decreed by God are found in the Quran. Again The following Quranic verses confirm this truth:
Shall I seek other than God as a law maker, when He has brought down to you the Book fully detailed?” The Holy Quran – 6:114
You shall not utter lies which are portrayed by your tongues as: “This is lawful and this is unlawful”, to fabricate lies and attribute them to God. Those who fabricate lies and attribute them to God will not succeed.” – The Holy Quran 16:116
With that said there is not one verse in the Quran where God prohibits the keeping of dogs, nor that dogs are dirty animals causing contamination.
Another important note one must take from this article is the belief that Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon was NOT able to issue religious laws on what is made permissible and prohibited to the people. The Quran verse below is proof of that.
“O you Prophet, why do you prohibit what God has made lawful for you, seeking to please your wives? God is Forgiver Merciful. – The Holy Quran 66:1
God did not include the words in 66:1 in the Quran to belittle the Prophet peace be upon him in our eyes, but these words are placed in the Quran in order to confirm to all believers, across all times, that the Prophet of God does not have the authority to prohibit anything which is not prohibited by God. God is the only Law Maker, Shall I seek other than God as a law maker, when He has brought down to you the Book fully detailed?” The Holy Quran – 6:114 and the only duty of the messenger is to deliver God’s message, You shall obey GOD, and you shall obey the messenger, and beware. If you turn away, then know that the sole duty of our messenger is to deliver the message efficiently – The Holy Quran 5:92.
One must be obey Allah and know that Quran as the only source of guidance and religious law.
